Lesson 9 - Working with the Energy in Your Biofield
Welcome back to our Guru Tips guide to using Life Force Energy to improve your life. In the last lesson you learned how to live more in the present moment. Now let’s talk about how you can become aware of your energy and work with it to improve its flow and vibration.
As we mentioned in earlier lessons, your personal energy is called your biofield. It is essentially your own piece of Life Force Energy that runs through and around you. Although the term biofield is fairly new, the ancient healing modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda / Yoga from India have used it for thousands of years. In TCM your energy is called Chi and in Ayurveda / Yoga it is called Prana.
According to these ancient as well as more modern energy healing traditions, both mental and physical illness is generally caused by energy blocks. These blockages can be caused by factors such as emotional trauma, physical injuries, and environmental influences. It happens to all of us - it is essentially how your biofield reacts to negative events.
The well-known TCM healing technique of acupuncture is all about removing these energy blocks. By placing needles in specific points in your body’s energy pathways (called meridians), the acupuncturist is essentially causing your energy to flow into areas where it was blocked before. Once the energy is moving again the symptoms being targeted then dissipate.
There are ways that you can use visualization and breathing techniques to move your energy yourself, and that is the point of this lesson. With a regular practice of moving energy through your body you can keep your biofield balanced, flowing freely, and vibrating at a higher frequency.
Here are some ideas on how to get started by breathing in good energy and moving it around:
- Stand in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and take some deep breaths.
- As you breathe in, pull energy into your being from Mother Earth below, and as you breathe out let it spread throughout your body.
- Then do the same a few times pulling energy in from the Universe above and spreading it throughout your body.
- It can help to visualize the energy having a bright white light. That is the light of love and positivity.
- Concentrate on feeling the energy come in and then spreading out. As you get practice you will be able to sense the energy.
- You can then focus on breathing energy into the 3 important energy centers in your body – your dan tian that is a few inches below your navel, your heart, and your head behind your eyes.
- As you breathe in, concentrate energy into these 3 areas. Then you can visualize a ball of energy that you breathe up and down your spine from one area to the next and back again.
This is a great way to get started with moving energy around your biofield. Once you get in the practice you can improvise and experiment with moving it from one side of your body to the other, up and down your spine, and from your center out into the part of your biofield that surrounds you (about 3 feet all around).
If you have an injury or a place in your body with chronic pain or inflammation, you can work on breathing energy into that specific area. Visualize the energy coming into that spot on the inhale, and then breaking up the blocked energy there as you exhale. You’re trying to open up the area so that your energy can flow freely to and through it.
You have probably heard of your body’s chakras as well. These are 7 energy points ranging from the base of your spine to the top of your head. They each have a color associated with them. A great practice for increasing your energetic vibration is to breathe energy into your chakras one at a time, visualizing their specific colors lighting up as you do so. Just Google “chakra system” for a diagram of their locations and colors.
By practicing any or all of these techniques you will be improving your energy flow, balance and vibration. It is an excellent way to support both your physical and emotional health. Just a few minutes a day is enough to make a difference. Try it for a few weeks and see how you feel – you should notice a significant difference and soon enough become hooked on moving your energy!
